Puy du Fou UK is a proposed historical live-show and immersive-entertainment destination near Bicester in Oxfordshire. It is not an operating theme park and it has not yet received a final planning decision.
The proposal is substantial: period villages, indoor and outdoor theatres, hotels, restaurants and transport infrastructure are all included in the outline application. But almost every practical visitor question—from tickets to exact opening dates—remains unsettled.
What is Puy du Fou UK?
Puy du Fou creates large-scale historical shows and themed environments inspired by the history and culture of each host country. Its existing parks are in France and Spain.
The company describes the experience as travelling through period villages, landscaped environments and live productions. That makes “theme park” a useful shorthand for searchers, but it is not a conventional roller-coaster-led park.
The UK project would create original experiences rooted in British history. The specific stories, historical periods and show titles have not been announced.
Has Puy du Fou UK been approved?
No final decision is currently shown.
Puy du Fou United Kingdom Limited has submitted outline planning application 25/02232/OUT to Cherwell District Council. The application remains under consideration, with the live register currently pointing to a target decision in late November 2026.
An outline application can establish whether the development is acceptable in principle. Because all matters are reserved, substantial detail would still need to return through later reserved-matters applications if outline permission is granted.
The project website’s older timeline anticipated a council decision much earlier in 2026. The live planning register is the better source for current status.
Where would it be built?
The proposed site is on agricultural land north of Bucknell village, around 3.5 kilometres north of Bicester. It covers approximately 158 hectares according to the Environmental Statement.
The B4100 runs along the eastern side of the site and Junction 10 of the M40 is nearby. The proposal also refers to Bicester North and Bicester Village railway stations as future public-transport gateways.
This is a planning boundary, not a visitor-ready address. Final entrances, signs and arrival instructions do not exist yet.
What is proposed?
The applicant’s current material describes:
Four period villages with food, drink and retail.
Thirteen theatres, comprising six outdoor and seven indoor venues, including immersive experiences.
Three themed hotels, one linked with a conference centre.
Restaurants, operational buildings, animal facilities, landscaping, water and waste infrastructure, energy facilities and internal routes.
New access arrangements from the B4100.
Every item in this list is proposed. None should be described as open, bookable or guaranteed until the planning and delivery stages progress.
Would it have rides?
Puy du Fou says its parks do not use roller coasters as their defining attraction. The model is based on live historical spectacle, immersive storytelling, period villages, craftspeople, gardens and natural settings.
That does not mean visitors simply watch a sequence of traditional theatre performances. Existing Puy du Fou parks use large sets, moving scenery, animals, effects and staged action. But the UK programme is not confirmed, so examples from France or Spain must not be presented as a UK attraction list.
When could it open?
The applicant is targeting an opening from 2029. Its Environmental Statement describes Phase 1 as the opening-year development and says it could represent around 60–70% of the eventual scheme.
That is a target, not a confirmed public opening date. The planning decision is pending, detailed applications would still be required, and construction and operational milestones could move.
There is no announced ticket-sale date, preview period or exact opening day.
How would visitors get there?
The proposal includes three new vehicle access points from the B4100, car and coach parking, and wider road works.
The applicant aims for half of daytime visitors to use public transport. Its material proposes free shuttle buses from Bicester North and Bicester Village stations, enhanced local bus services and walking and cycling investment.
Those arrangements are part of the planning proposal. Visitors cannot yet use or book a dedicated park shuttle.
What about hotels?
Three themed hotels are proposed, with one associated with a conference centre. Final brands, room mixes, prices, benefits and booking dates have not been announced.
Nearby Bicester and the wider Oxfordshire accommodation market may eventually matter to visitors, but it is too early to recommend non-refundable bookings for an unconfirmed opening.
What is still unknown?
The planning outcome and conditions.
The construction start and detailed phasing.
The final show and village programme.
Opening dates, tickets and operating hours.
Hotel details and booking routes.
Confirmed public-transport timetables and parking prices.
The practical answer
Puy du Fou UK is a credible, detailed proposal with a live planning application—not a confirmed park under construction. It is worth following now because the project could become a major UK destination, but planning-stage language matters.
Theme Park Trip will update this guide when the council publishes a decision or Puy du Fou confirms details that change a real visitor decision.
